How Omega-3s Help Ease Joint Pain
Today, we’re talking briefly about you and your joints. Whether you are a young athlete, mother of 4, or retired, it is important for you to take care of your joints so that you can perform at an optimal level in the gym or around the house. We’re keeping this one simple, so enjoy the short read!
If you’ve ever struggled with joint pain, discomfort, or stiffness, then you have probably been told by a friend/relative/doctor to take glucosamine or chondroitin. While these are great options to ease joint pain, did you know that consuming Omega-3s is also an excellent option?
Joint pain relief is the #1 reported benefit which we receive from our #LysiLife squad (If you’re unfamiliar, #LysiLife is our social media hashtag, and people use it to post pictures of product, how they are staying active and healthy, how to stay engaged with a healthy community etc.). This is brought up more than lowering bad cholesterol, lowering blood triglycerides, increasing mind and mood, or any of the other reported benefits of fish oil. Those who have been routinely taking their Lysi product have seen some pretty cool benefits, but how does this work?
Let’s explain….
1.) Omega-3 fatty acids, when supplemented regularly, have a very interesting impact on the flow of blood throughout the body. As a blood “thinner”, it increases normal blood flow, which can reduce the intensity of symptoms such as morning stiffness, tenderness, and swelling.
2.) Specifically, EPA and DHA promote the reduction of inflammation throughout the body, specifically in your joints. A little reading on WebMD or other sites will show you that inflammation is a primary cause for so many different illnesses, so it’s never a bad idea to use EPA and DHA regularly to keep this to a minimum.
3.) FAT IS NOT YOUR ENEMY! (Well, GOOD fat, that is.) Healthy fats, aka Omega-3 fatty acids, contain natural chemicals which also play a role in keeping your joints healthy. They restore joint tissue, and provide proper lubrication for the joint, which causes less rubbing together/pain. Many of us have been is this situation before, and we can vouch for the fact that it’s better to be proactive about this rather than reactive!
4.) Lastly, please keep in mind that Omega-3s can be consumed by eating fish or taking fish oil supplements. While we strive to make the best quality products possible, we always encourage our consumers to venture out and try new ways to get their EPA and DHA. One of our CEO’s favorite ways is to have a nice filet of Salmon with a little salt, pepper, garlic, and lemon juice.
Let’s face it- joint pain is no fun. More serious issues, such as arthritis, can be much more severe and debilitating. While Omega-3s are not a fix-all solution to this pain, the science shows that many people can benefit from their regular consumption. We recommend consulting with your physician and a nutritionist to develop your plan for fighting joint pain. Develop that plan, create boundaries which help you stick to the plan, and be willing to see it through!
